Developing Trends in Anti-Aging

By Jon | September 10th, 2009

With advances in medical technology and treatments, people are living longer, which means there are more people in the older demographics. This trend will probably lead to continual growth in cosmetic anti-aging products. According to Euromonitor, anti-aging products and treatments has grown around 67% in the last five years to almost 15 billion dollars. Japan is the largest consumer of anti-aging skin care products account for around 20% of global sales. People are trying to look younger and feel better and with the growing older population cosmetic trends in anti-aging seem to have a permanent place in the global market. Another cosmetic trend in anti-aging is the desire for safe and healthy products that actually work. This requires companies to do considerable research to prove that their product is effective. People are beginning to become more worried about products that contain chemicals and substances with names that they cannot even pronounce. People want products that do not just make them feel and look good but are healthy for them. This cosmetic anti-aging trend has ostracized a lot of very effective products with any sort of health risk. People are wearing less make-up and demonologists are recommending skin care products that are free of oils and fragrances. Cosmetic trends in anti-aging does not only deal with products but also foods. Studies are showing that food intake and consumption can affect the aging process and look and feel of the skin. There have been quite a few product lines released that are deemed “beauty foods.” Fruits, vegetables, fish, and nuts are the main ingredients in this developing trend. This group of foods are said to have various effects on the skin because of their healthy fats and vitamins. Another developing trend in the anti-aging field is the idea of caloric restriction. Many products are said to help curb a consumers appetite and by doing this people will slow the aging process. It has been proved that curbing one’s appetite without the use of drugs or products is much healthier. These people are not saying people should starve themselves but just be very conscious of calorie intake. Of course the more active a person is the more they should eat and vise versa. The generally accepted idea that the average person should take in 2000 calories daily is quickly falling by the wayside. People should also remember to try to avoid fried foods and other extremely fatty foods. Just remember that calorie intake and food choice can have powerful anti-aging results. Another cosmetic trend in anti-aging is that people are wearing less makeup. People are striving for a more natural look rather than being covered in make-up. This doesn’t mean people are using less skin care products just less makeup. People are starting to use creams and rubs to moisturize and keep the skin healthy rather than just waking up and slapping on a ton of makeup. Another reason for this developing trend is the pace at which Americans live. Many people do not have the time to go through the entire makeup process and desire quick and easy products that will keep the skin smooth and youthful.
