Grants are most commonly used when someone is starting up a business or going to school, one of the coolest things about grants is that often they don’t need to be paid back. This is one of the great things about grants; instead of being like loans where you have to pay them back they are more like a free gift. You may be familiar with grants because you may have received a grant when you went to college, many students get these in addition to a loan to help pay for their schooling. Although these “gifts” aren’t exactly without terms, there are some rules associated with grants when it comes to getting them for school. Often in order to keep your grant for all four years you have to perform at a certain level all four years and keep your GPA over a certain number in order to get it for the next year. This number is usually 3.0 or 3.5 because grants are normally given to people who are excelling in school. Grants can be given from a number of different people including individuals, small companies, big companies, athletic teams, special foundations, or even from the federal government. These people who give these academic grants understand can be the difference between an individual going to a good college and going to a community college so they take pride in giving this academic money. They understand that college is very expensive but also they understand how essential a college education is to succeeding in life. Once you qualify for the grant you don’t have to pay it back, this is why getting a grant is much more preferred than getting a loan. The amount of money you will get in your grant changes per each individual normally it is determined by a combination of a few things including the cost of the college or university and your parent’s income. The money for the grant is normally automatically deducted from your account every semester but there are some special circumstances where the check can be mail to a parent or guardian for them to use to pay the bills instead of having it automatically deducted. When you are filing for a grant is it important to take note of any due dates that there may be associated with the grant because if you want to try to qualify you have to do it within a certain date for the next semester or school year. Although normally the grants are given for a four year span as long as the students grades stay within the range to keep the grant.
