Reduce Stress With Belly Breathing
By Billy | September 10th, 2009
Belly breathing is said to have anti-aging benefits. These benefits range from supposed lung filtration improvements to aligning one’s chi. the technique is rather simple but it takes awhile for someone to make habitual because most people breathe with their chest and have been doing so subconsciously their entire life. Inhale and expand the belly and let the belly contract while exhaling is the technique. It takes a tremendous amount of practice to make this action habitual and subconscious. Belly breathing supposedly has many anti-aging benefits. The most notable benefit to belly breathing is that is supplies the body with more oxygen. Breathing with the belly helps expand the lungs giving a much larger intake of air. This will of course make muscles feel better and slow the heart beat, both of which are healthy benefits. At a young age we breathe with our abdominal area but by about the age of two we begin to use our chest. The reason for this transformation is not known. Since the body is getting more oxygen another anti-aging benefit to belly breathing is more energy and control of anxiety. The aim is to start with around five or six breaths per minute and eventually cut it down to around four breaths per minute. This technique helps fight stress and anxiety because it is almost a natural form of mediation. Many people combine belly breathing with other activities like yoga or tai-chi. Mediation is a great stress reliever and control of stress through belly breathing can be a very useful anti-aging technique. The major argument against belly breathing and its anti-aging benefits is that many people find it very hard to mediate. Belly breathing does not require mediation, however, like most people think it does. Belly breathing can be done anywhere and it only takes a matter of minutes to complete. Some people have even completely transformed their breathing habits so they are always using belly breathing. There are various different methods on how to belly breathe correctly but overall, the simple technique described above will suffice. Belly breathing can still be effective to those who do not like mediation. Belly breathing is said to have tremendous anti-aging benefits. Stress raises the heart beat and breathing rate and by simply relaxing and belly breathing both heart beats and breathing rates will lower. This will reduce chances of heart attack and overall provide more energy because the heart will not be constantly working at a high rate. Plus if people are less stressed they will be less likely to engage in unhealthy habits that stress brings. People will be less likely to smoke, drink, and eat comfort foods if they are stress free. Belly breathing can be done at anytime and anywhere. Many people with office job use belly breathing during breaks and after stressful meeting and calls. Once again, belly breathing allows for more oxygen to flow through out the body which helps muscles repair faster and also helps clear out unwanted toxins.
